Our history
Master butcher Johann Margraf ran a so-called Kranz tavern on his property on the road to Schaffhausen – the Restauration Margraf.
The butcher Josef Jäger acquired the Margraf property and, after extending the premises, continued both the butcher's shop and the restaurant under the name Kranz.
A further renovation followed in 1913. After Josef Jäger's death, his widow continued to run the Kranz and in 1931 leased it to their son, master butcher Stefan Jäger, who built a slaughterhouse two years later. Its closure in 1958 ended 54 years of family tradition.
On 1 November 1966, master butcher Erich Stier and his wife Gertrud reopened the butcher's shop and the inn.
In 1975 the old inn and butcher's shop were demolished. A year later the inn reopened with 30 seats and 9 guest rooms.
The Stiers built today's Kranz on the opposite side of the street, with 20 hotel rooms and 100 seats.
Son and master butcher Siegfried Stier took over the butcher's shop and opened the new premises opposite, with 12 hotel rooms.
On 1 October 2007 the Kranz passed to daughter Petra Stier – the family tradition has continued ever since.
